• HURRICANE RESPONSE EFFORTS •
After Hurricane Katrina, the city of New Orleans was able to produce over 100 million gallons of water daily. Of the 100 million gallons, over 80 million were lost due to leaks and ruptures in the system. Northwind was subcontracted to provide water and sewer line inspectors for the City of New Orleans in response to the Katrina Disaster. The inspectors were responsible for going street by street to inspect the water and sewer lines for visual failures. Failures were logged and remedial repairs where instituted if possible. Data from the inspections were loaded into the city's Sewer and Water Board GIS to be used to direct repair crews and prioritize ruptures.
Hurricane Response Services – US Navy Key West, Florida– In response to Hurricane Wilma Northwind was mobilized to help in the reconstruction of the US Naval bases in Key West. Northwind was utilized to oversee the demolition and reconstruction services required to get US Military families back into their houses following hurricane Wilma. The work included directing the mold remediation in each unit. Remediation required demolition of affected surfaces while in complete containment. The remaining surface areas were encapsulated in order to contain and prevent any additional mold. After encapsulation the buildings were rebuilt to modified plans. Northwind oversaw the
Reconstruction efforts from rough carpentry to the final coat of paint. In order to accommodate the fast response required by the Navy we were faced with a schedule that included working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. During a two month period over 200,000 man hours were utilized. Working with NAFAC we were able to provide housing that was readily accepted by the Navy. |
