Truly a success story, Northwind has grown in size, experience, and capabilities to a highly competitive 8a firm. Since our beginning in 2002, we have evolved into a firm with over 100 employees and five (5) offices nationwide.


8a Certified:
In July 2006, Northwind was certified by the United States Small Business Administration as an 8a certified contractor. Being 8a certified provides participants with access to a variety of business development services, including the opportunity to receive federal contracts on a sole-source or limited competition basis. Northwind's 8a certification will expire in 2015.
American Indian:
Northwind's president is a tribal member of the Chippewa Cree – Rocky Boy Reservation. The Department of Defense provides prime contractors a 5% rebate on work subcontracted to American Indian owned firms. Subcontracted commercial products manufactured in whole or in part by an Indian-owned business are also eligible for this rebate.
Woman-Owned:
Northwind can assist firms in meeting their subcontracting goals and qualifies for woman-owned restricted contracts.
Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB):
Northwind is a certified disadvantaged contractor and can assist firms in meeting their subcontracting goals. Northwind also qualifies for disadvantaged restricted contracts.

Northwind Engineering's
Managing Member
Ms. Darcia North Wind is the managing member and majority owner of Northwind Engineering. Ms. North Wind is a Chippewa Cree American Indian, and an enrolled tribal member of the Rocky Boy Reservation in Montana. She attended the University of Montana and has over 20 years of professional experience. Ms. North Wind began her career with the USDA Forest Service and has worked for successful contractors such as URS, Shaw, E&I, and the Judy Company. She was one of the founding members and director of the Boys and Girls Club of Great Falls, MT. Her resume includes various management and training certifications including USACE CQM, EMT, and significant OSHA safety certifications. In addition to her management responsibilities at Northwind as president of the firm, Ms. North Wind provides direct field professional services and has been involved with projects for DOT, USDA Forest Service, US Air Force, and USACE.
